This year the total raised during our Lenten Charity fortnight is an incredible £2,619.38 which has been donated to the amazing charity Cancer Research UK.

Along with our non-uniform day for students and staff there was a whole host of other activities and events that helped to raise this fabulous amount of money and you can read all about them below:

As in previous years, there were popular House cake sales for Clayton, Cuerden, Farington and Worden. This always causes friendly rivalry and competiveness and they are always a great way of raising money. We are lucky to have some talented bakers in our students and their families. Here are the amounts raised by the houses this year:

  • Clayton and Cuerden cake sale raised over £232
  • Farington and Worden cake sale raised over £262

There was also some fabulous individual fundraising by our amazing students again this year. Cuerden 1, Mrs Henderson’s tutor group, all raised £5 and there were four students from this tutor group who went the extra mile; they were: Matthew Brown, Milly Campbell, Maddison Schofield and Ryan Downes.

  • Matthew raised £72 by organising a tennis competition at Fox Lane Tennis Club and selling cakes that he’d made
  • Milly raised £105 with a sponsored silence for a full day
  • Maddison raised £20.00 for a sponsored run around Leyland
  • Ryan raised £24.30 with a sponsored climb at West View Leisure, climbing the height of the Eiffel Tower.

A superb effort from this whole tutor group; they are definitely the ones to beat next year!

Our Senior Prefect team organised a fun lunch time event of Hula Hooping and 'Keepy Uppy' and raised £10.

Students from Farington 5 made and ate their own pizzas at lunch time.

All the students who took part donated £1 and Mrs Thomas kindly provided the ingredients. The amount raised was £19.

Mrs Lupton, held a ‘glow in the dark’ keep fit session after school where students and staff could wear fancy dress, buy whistles, keep fit and raise the roof with their fundraising.

This raised an incredible £66.50.

Worden 7 and Mr Shorrock created an amazing hamper filled with delicious chocolate goodies and sold raffle tickets to students and staff in school. They raised £34.45.

There was some creative fundraising from Clayton 5 as the students collected copper coins and created a wonderful design which raised £18.

On the final day of our Lenten Charity fortnight there was another cake sale and this time the amazing bakers were students from Cuerden 2 and Mrs Holden.

The delicious goodies sold raised a fabulous £29.50.

Rumour has it that George Clooney was in school that day?? – see the image below!!

Our catering group, Chartwells, also got into the spirit of raising money and created special house menus that were voted for by the students and made an extremely generous donation of £50 to the house that sold the most lunches. This year the winner was Worden House. Farington were second, Clayton third and Cuerden fourth.

On Wednesday 17th May, there was a sponsored 5k event after school and students and staff took part, some in fancy dress!

We are still waiting for the final figure for the amount raised as sponsorship money is still arriving!  Until then - a huge thank you to everyone and particularly the students who worked so hard getting sponsors.

Special mention to the following students who raised the most individual amounts:

  • Tyler Green 7WN2 £75.00
  • Bobby Allen 7FN1 £68.00
  • Abe Hoyle 8CU3 £65.50
  • Jonathan Gough/Adam Chippendale £64.26
  • Daniel Faulkner 8FN4 £50.15
  • Georgia Eccles 7FN1 £50.00

Massive congratulations to Mrs Whittam’s tutor group who collectively raised a massive £343.49. Thanks and well done to all who contributed.

We are so very proud of all the incredible fundraising that happens at Balshaw’s and very thankful to everyone who gives their support. We couldn’t do it without you.
