Balshaw’s are delighted to announce further success with Rotary Youth Speaks!

The Regional Semi-Finals were held at Windermere High School on Saturday, February 8th. Both intermediate and senior teams, who were led by Ms McCutcheon, competed against other schools from the North West for the chance to secure a place at the next round of the competition.

Our intermediate team: Charlie McCrone, Eliza Newton and Phoebe Rogerson, won over the judges this weekend with their inspiring speech about the ways in which the suffragettes have changed the place of women in the modern world, coming runners-up overall and progressing to the final stage of the competition! The National Finals will be held on Saturday, May 9th at UCLan. This is an outstanding achievement for the girls who really did shine on Saturday morning.

Further to this, Jennifer Chambers, Rachel Prater and Hannah Crompton also competed against the other senior teams from the region. Although the team did not get through to the next round, they received glowing comments from the judges who found it hard to fault them. Rachel Prater delivered her speech on the impacts of technology with passion, conviction and humour; a hard balance to strike! Head Girl, Hannah Crompton also received an award for 'Best Overall Chairperson' for her professional and personable management of her team.

All six students represented the school fantastically and we couldn't be prouder of them.

Well done girls!
