As part of our ongoing School of Sanctuary work we will be celebrating Refugee Week in school with a host of activities.
Refugee Week 2026 - 15 - 19th June 2026 - theme this year is Courage. The campaign invites everyone to celebrate shared humanity and carry "courage" forward through everyday actions and storytelling.
Activities for the week
-
Acts of Worship theme of Courage - Refugee Week Assemblies
-
Participation in the Live Refugee Week Assembly
-
Each Tutor group will be given a "heart" template. Students in Years 7 and 8 are asked to populate the heart with what they see as courageous acts, words or deeds in relation to Refugees and then the Art Dept have kindly made a big heart that we can add our little hearts to in order to make a big display
-
Year 9 will have the opportunity to listen to Timoty Cho who has very kindly organised to come to school. Timothy Cho is a two-time escapee who endured imprisonment on four occasions in China and North Korea. After his parents fled North Korea, he became a homeless member of the "enemy class" -a persecuted group comprising families of regime defectors who are systematically denied opportunities. Since resettling in the United Kingdom, he has earned a BA in International Relations and Politics from University of Salford and an MA in International Relations and Security from University of Liverpool.
-
RS students will also be able to meet and speak with Timothy Cho during lunchtime on 18th June
-
The History Department will deliver KS3 History lessons to mark the week focusing on a different group of Refugees from history - those that left England on the Mayflower seeking a new and better life in the New World
More details to follow about this wonderful week to raise awareness to our school of the plight of others around the world in seeking Sanctuary.
