Christian Vision and Values in Film Studies

The Film Studies Department is committed to embedding Christian values throughout the curriculum. The above scripture fits film studies because movies often explore truth, beauty, morality, and human experience—exactly the kinds of themes this verse encourages us to focus on. It can be used when analysing how films portray values, aesthetics, or emotional impact.

All the school values are reflected in Film Studies, but we place particular emphasis on kindness, love and patience.

Through these values, students learn to appreciate the impact they have upon the world, look to role models representing heroic kindness and patiently question the actions of others that can reflect villainy or sin.

Curriculum Intent

The WJEC Eduqas specification in GCSE Film Studies is designed to draw on learners' enthusiasm for film and introduce them to a wide variety of cinematic experiences through films which have been important in the development of film and film technology.

At Balshaw’s, we seek to teach the human experience through a wide ranging and enjoyable selection of film from different eras and cultures.

Students will have the opportunity to visit Runshaw to explore the opportunities in Film Studies at A Level.
