Rotary Youth Speaks and English-Speaking Union's Public Speaking Competitions
2 December 2022
On Tuesday 15th November, we had three public speaking teams representing school in the Rotary Youth Speaks competition.
Isabel spoke eloquently about how the NHS is failing women supported by the Chair, Charlie, and the Proposer of the vote of thanks, Ewan, winning the Intermediate Rotary Youth Speaks competition and trophy.
Great note must also be made of the other two teams: May spoke with gravitas about why there is a lack of women in STEM supported by Clarisse as Chair and Millie as Proposer. Emilia was impassioned about how High Schools are failing the creative arts supported by Louise as her Chair and Milly as the Proposer of the vote of thanks.
On Monday 21st November, we had two teams competing in the first round of the English-Speaking Union's Public Speaking Competition.
Chair Milly and Questioner, May handled the Speaker from TIBHS with great stewardship; while their Speaker, Millie, explained why capitalism is past its sell by date, leading them to proceed through to the next round.
Charlie and Ewan, as always, worked well as a Chair/Questioner team and Isabel spoke about how patriotism can be destructive to international relations.
All students from Balshaw's spoke with clarity and eloquence and did us proud.
