Learning All About Mussels!

In early December, Balshaw's were thrilled to receive two batches of free rope-grown mussels that were kindly donated by Offshore Shellfish.

We were 1 of 200 schools to be chosen for this exciting venture! The reason for the donation was to enlighten our students about the nutritional value of fish/shellfish and to enhance their culinary skills.

During their Food Preparation and Nutrition lesson, our Year 10 students learnt how to check that the mussels were good to use, how to prepare and cook them, along with accompanying garnishes and making their own flatbread. 

You can see the progress the students made in the photographs below and can certainly see that the mussels were thoroughly enjoyed at the end of the lesson!
