I am a student:
As a student of the school, a future voter and someone who lives locally to the school, your letter will be very important in helping to influence the opinions of the Planning Committee. Below are some ideas that you may want to include in your letter.
Thank you for taking the time to support our application – it means a lot to what we can offer to students of Balshaw’s as we move forward.
- Explain how much school means to you and the range of activities that are available.
- Say that you know that schools are under a lot of pressure because they don’t have the same amount of money to spend as they used to. You would like your school to be able to continue to afford to offer you the best education possible with the best facilities so being able to rent the facilities we have would help not just the users of the facilities, but you as a student because it means the school will have a way to generate more money.
- Say that you know that other schools in the area are allowed to do this and you can’t understand why the Council would treat Balshaw’s so unfairly when you know the opening times for other schools are:
- Penwortham Priory – until 22:30
- Leyland St Mary’s – until 22.30
- Brownedge St Mary’s – until 21.00
- Lostock Hall – until 22.30
- Walton-Le-Dale – until 21.00
- You can explain that the school offers lots of extra-curricular opportunities which you benefit from (list some of the clubs or groups that you take part in), but that the cost of running activities like this are less likely if the school cannot raise additional money from letting its facilities such as the astro-turf.
- You might talk about the fact that young people like yourself are the future and you would like to feel that your needs and the things that will benefit you, the health of the community and increase the range of sporting opportunities available to young people would be the prime consideration of the planning committee. You might even go so far as to say that there is a moral duty to provide equal opportunities for your school as exist for others.
These are a few ideas, and if you read through our full application, you will find more.
