On Wednesday 9th July, the annual trip to the WW1 Battlefields began. The group consisted of Year 9 & 10 students and they were accompanied by Mr Shannon, Mr Riley, Mr Tilley, Miss Haggitt and Mrs Stewart.
They stayed in Ieper and also visited the Somme in France to find out about the history of the First World War and visited sites such as The Wellington Tunnels in Arras, Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, the Trenches at Sanctuary Wood, Tyne Cot Cemetery & The Menin Gate to witness the Last Post. They also visited a number of personal graves of relatives who died in the First World War, as well as the graves of fallen Balshavians.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their time away, their behaviour was impeccable and they and were an absolute credit to their families and the school.
