On Thursday 17th July, 45 Year 7 History students had a day exploring the wonderful historic Skipton Castle.

Despite a slightly delayed departure an excellent day was enjoyed with our expert guides Chris and Steve at Skipton Castle delivering many interesting stories and anecdotes about the long history and developments at the castle (originating from 1090). Students were able to sit on the aptly named “long drop” toilets and learned about the medieval origins of some well-known phrases still in use today.

After a quick lunch we departed for a short excursion to the ruins of Bolton Priory (Bolton Abbey). Here during a whistle stop visit, students were able to experience the beautiful, peaceful site and listened to a brief explanation of the Dissolution of the Monasteries from a young History teacher who happened to be there.

Our students' behaviour was excellent and hopefully the visit was enjoyed by all (despite the superheated coach!).

Many thanks to Mr Morgan, Mrs Makinson and Miss Haggitt for all their help.
