On Monday 3rd February, our Year 11 boys’ football team played against Worden Academy in the South Ribble Schools Cup.

The team found themselves 3-0 down within the opening 20 minutes. However, two quickfire goals for Alfie S and Kai F pulled the game back to 3-2 at half time.

Once again, just after half time Balshaw’s conceded another goal and at 4-2, it looked like Worden would be progressing to the next round and our Year 11 football team would be playing their final game together. However, all was not lost, a great strike from Reuben M fired us back into the game before Harry M (who had previously been off with an injury) limped back onto the field to play through his injury for the team. One of his first actions was to deliver a fantastic freekick which George W picked up to score a powerful header to make it 4-4, then with just 3 minutes left Balshaw’s found themselves in the ascendancy.

Next to step-up was Alfie S, who scored the winner with just a couple of minutes to go to win the game 5-4. The crowd went wild and Balshaw’s went through to the semi-finals of the cup!

A fantastic effort from a brilliant group of players who haven't had much to shout about this season. They will play Walton-Le-Dale in their next game and can hopefully get through to the final.
