While most of us were battling the wind and rain on Wednesday 4th June, Year 10 Prefect Jack Waddington was battling it out on the fairways, representing Balshaw's with pride at the Lancashire Schools Under 16 Golf Championships.

Hosted at the prestigious Clitheroe Golf Club, the event saw Jack go head-to-head with over 60 of the best young golfers from across the county. Despite starting the day in what can only be described as atrocious weather, Jack dug deep and posted a very respectable score of 90. This continues a fine golfing tradition for the Waddington family, following his brother Sam's remarkable victory as the English Schools' Under 16s National Champion last year.

Also flying the Balshaw's flag was Abigail T from Year 9, who represented the girls.

Reflecting on the day, Jack said it was an "honour to represent the school." He praised the "very good condition" of the course, even if the weather wasn't quite up to par initially. Thankfully, the sun did eventually make an appearance. With a smile, Jack also mentioned he "hoped his playing partners' ability to count improved before the next match!"

This is just the start of the golfing season. Jack is already looking forward to the Lancashire Schools Stableford Competition at Blackburn Golf Club on Wednesday, 25th June.

A huge thank you must go to our Chair of Governors, Mr. Woodcock, for his unwavering support of golf at Balshaw's.

Could you be the next to represent our school? If you're inspired by Jack and Abigail's efforts, why not get involved? Golf is a fantastic sport for all, and a brilliant way to represent Balshaw's. See you on the tee!

Thank you to Mr Waddington for sharing this wonderful news about Jack and Abigail. It sounds like you had a great day despite the weather!

We really look forward to hearing more about your next competition on 25th June.
