Sam Shines on the International Golf Stage
25 September 2024
We are very proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Sam W, in Year 11, who has recently made a significant mark in the world of golf. Sam represented England in the prestigious England Schools vs. Wales Schools golf match held at Stoke Rochford Golf Club, contributing significantly to England’s victory.
Mr Waddington has sent the following about Sam's fabulous achievements:
A Journey of Excellence
Sam’s journey to this international stage began with his exceptional performance at the National U16’s Championship at Lincoln Golf Club on 15th July, where he was crowned the national under 16 champion. This victory followed his remarkable performances in the Lancashire Schools Under 16 Championships at Burnley Golf Club on 4th June and the Lancashire Schools Championships at Lancaster Golf Club on 3rd May.
Despite the appalling weather conditions at Burnley, where many players were unable to finish, Sam’s determination and skill shone through, earning him commendations for his outstanding performance.
Triumph at Stoke Rochford
In the recent international match, Sam played a crucial role in securing England’s win by earning 1.5 out of 2 points. His dedication and hard work paid off, and he proudly wore his England blazer, a symbol of his achievements and potential.
June Morgan, the President of the England Schools Golf Association (ESGA), humorously remarked to Sam, “Keep hold of that jacket, you’ll need it again next year.” This light-hearted comment not only highlights Sam’s current success but also his promising future in golf.
Gratitude and Encouragement
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Steven Haycocks, our headteacher, for his unwavering support and encouragement. We also express our gratitude to the teachers and staff who have supported Sam throughout his journey. A special mention goes to Mr. Keith Woodcock, our Chair of Governors, for his continued support and dedication to our students’ success.
Sam’s achievements serve as an inspiration to all our students. For those interested in pursuing golf, Sam is more than happy to offer mentorship and guidance. We encourage any aspiring golfers to reach out to him for advice and support.
