Year 11 Boys Reach the South Ribble Cup Final!
27 February 2025
After a difficult season but a great cup run, a few people probably expected that this would be the team's final game together. How wrong were they... After a nervous opening 20 minutes in an even game, Sam McK was able to battle past a strong defence and put us 1-0 up before Alfie S decided now was the time to show off his best David Beckham impression as he curled a freekick into the top corner. A well worked freekick for Walton-le-Dale pulled a goal back and Balshaw's went in 2-1 up at half time after a cagey first half.
The game really could have gone either way in the second half, some great saves from goalkeeper James T meant Balshaw's were able to weather the figurative and literal storm. Just as Walton-le-Dale began to turn up the pressure, Balshaw's team captain, Harry McD found the bottom corner with a volley. Pandemonium on the side line! From there, Balshaw's turned into Brazil. Will W's long-range effort made it 4-1 before two close range goals from Alfie S and Seb G sealed the game. An emphatic 6-1 victory in the semi-finals.
Another incredible effort has seen Balshaw's reach the final of the South Ribble Cup. It has not been decided who we meet in the final yet, but the boys deserve a great deal of credit for making it this far. On to the final!
